Dates to Remember

The Physical agility, swim test, and written exam will be held at 8:00 AM on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids. 

 

The written test is administered by the State of Wisconsin, Wisconsin City and County Testing Service, and will be held immediately following the physical agility exam for those candidates that do not have a current score on file.

Minimmum Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship
  • A minimum age of 21 at time of appointment
  • Associate Degree in Police Science, or a college degree in a related field, or minimum of 60 credit hour of college level courses attested by a transcript from the college
  • Completion of Basic Police Recruit Training with Wisconsin Certification (Proof of certification is required at time of hire)
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License
  • Must have ability to swim and survive in water rescue operations
  • Must be able to withstand a pre-appointment investigation
  • Vision correctable to 20/20
  • Able to distinguish color
  • Must be fluent in speaking and writing English
  • Must have and be able to maintain the legal right to possess firearms
  • Must live within a 15 mile radius or within the boundaries of the Wisconsin Rapids School District within one (1) year from date of appointment

Physical Agility Requirements:

1. Manikin Drag
A candidate must lift and drag a 125 pound manikin a distance of 50 feet in 15.5 seconds
2. Bench Press
Women 35 pound barbell
Men 80 pound barbell
Metronome set to 60 bpm (beats per minute). Spotter hands weight to candidate in the down position, elbows flexed and hands shoulder width apart. A repetition is counted when elbows are fully extended. After each extension, the bar should be lowered to touch the chest. Up and down movements should be in time to the 60 bpm rhythm, which is 30 lifts per minute. Test is completed when the candidate is unable to come to full extension or falls behind the 60 bpm rhythm. Candidates must complete 30 repetitions.
3. Wall Jump/Climb
A candidate must approach a six foot wall from a distance no closer than 20 feet, get over the top of the wall, and continue running for 20 more feet within 10 seconds.
4. Sit-Ups
A candidate must complete twenty-five (25) sit-ups in one minute, performed while sitting on the floor, arms across chest, legs secured, and knees bent.
5. Long Distance Run
A candidate will be required to complete a long distance run of 1/2 mile in four minutes or less and jump over four hurdles that are approximately 30 inches high during the course of the run.
6. Swim Test
The candidate, wearing a swimming suit, will be required to demonstrate his/her survival skills by jumping into the deep end of a swimming pool, treading water for five minutes and then swimming to the opposite end of the pool using any conventional stroke.
